Band Camp
(required for
all Marching Band Students)
Marching Band Season starts the end of
July and wraps up in late Fall. The season begins with a week of
pre-band camp. Pre-camp runs Monday-Thursday, 6-9 pm. at
Caledonia High School. The band students get acquainted with their
peers and the director, get fitted for uniforms, and begin to learn
their marching program.
Band Camp is scheduled the week after pre-band camp and will
be at Lincoln Lake Baptist Camp in Gowen, MI. in 2008. We have been
very impressed by their facilities and staff! Your kids will spend
many hours learning their marching program, but will have plenty of time for
fun. The camp has a great swimming beach, a pontoon and two
tubing/water skiing boats, rock climbing walls, black light dodge
ball, great food and much more! On the Sunday they leave for band camp,
the students meet at the school, hand in all necessary
travel/medical forms, have their bags inspected and board the
busses. Parents’ night at camp is on Thursday evening. You can tour
the camp, watch the band perform their show and afterwards gather
for an ice cream social. The students return by bus on Friday
afternoon and can be picked up at Caledonia High School.
Specific travel times will be given during pre-band camp.
Beginning the week after band camp,
practices are held 2 nights a week, 2-3 hours per session. Usually
by mid-September, practices are down to just one night a week.
Sections may call additional practices as needed.
The End of Year Picnic is a great way
to end the year. The band boosters provide the hotdogs, buns, paper
products and the grilling! Bring a dish to pass and enjoy other band
families in celebrating a successful year! Band awards night is
scheduled for May…watch for the date. Information for the new band
year will be distributed and if applicable, you’ll have the
opportunity fill it out and turn in immediately. Band camp info,
release forms, schedules and contact information will be included.
